Vice President JD Vance accused Harvard of a lack of “ideological diversity” and compared academic institutions to North Korea in the Trump administration’s ongoing battle with schools.
Vance said Tuesday, without evidence, “probably” that 95% of Harvard faculty voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, and that the university became these “nearly semi-ethnic or quasi-ppostolic society.”
“Yes. It’s so great. Of course, Kamala Harris,” Vance said at the American Compass Memorial Gala in Washington. “But when you ask yourself about a foreign election, a foreign election, 80% of people say they voted for one candidate. “Ah, that’s a bit strange, isn’t it?” “Ah, if 95% of people said they voted for a candidate from one party, you say, “You’d say, ‘It’s North Korea’… That’s not possible in the true place of free exchange for that to happen.”
Harvard did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

The Trump administration is in conflict with Harvard since October 2023 as academic institutions push for setting up changes to governance and admissions processes in response to incidents of bias on campus targeting Jewish students.
But Harvard President Alan M. Gerber said in April that the agency would not follow because the Trump administration included additional reforms that went beyond addressing anti-Semitism on campus, and the demands were unconstitutional.

Specifically, Gerber said the new demands call for “direct government regulations on Harvard’s ‘intelligent conditions’,” including auditing the monitoring points of students, faculty and staff on campus, and eliminating all diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, offices and initiatives at Harvard University.

“The intent is to make it clear that it is not to work with us to address anti-Semitism in a cooperative and constructive way,” Gerber wrote in an April letter. “We have notified the administration through our legal advisor that we will not accept the proposed agreement.”
Since then, the Trump administration has warned that all federal funds will be withdrawn from schools, representing a total of $100 million contracts. This is in addition to the $3.2 billion grant and contract that the administration had previously frozen.
Trump administrators will cut more than $2.2 billion in funding to Harvard after-school.
