Two guests who said they were devoured by bedbugs at the Ventura hotel have won millions of dollars in civil lawsuits.
On Friday, the ju judge ordered Shores Inn to pay Albalogtierrez and Rami Los Sanchez $2 million to $2 million, according to the Los Angeles Times, which could be one of the largest bedbug-related ju judge awards on record, according to the Los Angeles Times, which cited court records.
According to their complaints, Gutierrez and Sanchez stayed at the Coastal Hotel, 1059 S. Seaward Ave., on February 7, 2020, one night.
“The bedbug bumped into the plaintiff while he was asleep, sucking blood until he sucked it, resisting eradication,” the Times alleged.
The plaintiffs also alleged that hotel management was aware of the intrusion from numerous online reviews, but were unable to address the issue.
The Shores Inn representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Times, nor did they give lawyers representing the hotel.
Gutierrez was awarded $400,000 for pain, appearance, grief, and mental distress, while Sanchez was awarded $600,000 for similar damages. The ry judge also awarded each man $500,000 in punitive damages.
The hotel will appeal the decision.
