Estimates show President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Building” is projected to increase debt by $3 trillion, or $5 trillion if permanently made.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is projected to add more than $2.4 trillion to the major deficit before interest, according to the non-profit public policy organisation, the non-profit federal budget committee (CRFB).

As of Wednesday, the national debt measuring what the US owes to creditors was $36.2 trillion, and the national deficit that arises when federal spending exceeds revenue was $1 trillion.

The large spending package being considered in Republican-controlled Congress, aims to address many issues, including tax policy, border security and immigration, defense, energy production, debt restrictions, snap and Medicaid coordination.

Trump’s “big and beautiful bill” faces resistance from Republican senators against the fear of debt

The White House has launched a new website that shows how much “big and beautiful bill” is expected to save Americans. Public Policy Group estimates that the bill will increase by trillions of dollars based on estimates from the Congressional Budget Office. (White House)

“Based on the CBO estimates, the House Passed bill includes a tax cut of approximately $5.3 trillion, partially offset by an increase in revenues of $2.9 trillion and spending cuts,” the CRFB statement said. “Most importantly, the policy proposed by the Ways & Means Committee will increase the deficit online by $3.8 trillion, while the Energy & Commerce title policy will reduce the deficit by $1.1 trillion.

“OBBBA (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) is too much debt as written, and if the temporary provision is extended as intended, it could lead to much more financial damage than it would be reported,” the group said.

The bill noted that it would raise recent inflation, raise interest rates, add unnecessary complexity to tax laws, weaken market confidence and slow down long-term economic growth.

It urged the Senate to “take more responsibility” for the bill.

Despite the bill passed in the House, some lawmakers opposed the legislation, particularly Senator Rand Paul, R-KY.

“We’ve never actually raised our debt cap without meeting that goal,” Paul told reporters this week. “So you can say it’s not going to be added directly to your debt, but if you add $5 trillion in the ceiling, it fills it.

Top Democrats recently said the bill would cause the deaths of an estimated 51,000 Americans due to changes in the federal health system and broader settlement law changes. And there’s Elon Musk, former director of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, in opposition to the bill.

Fox News Digital has contacted the White House.
