The dedicated chef trained in Los Angeles survives a horrific, violent attack by a suspect wielding a machete that just killed another victim.

The violence unfolded early in the morning of June 1st, with the Los Angeles Police Department responding to reports of attacks on downtown 11th Avenue and South Grand Avenue.

At the scene, police found a victim seriously injured in the attack. He was only described as a man in his 60s, so the victim was rushed to the hospital and later died.

While detectives were at the scene under investigation, reports of another machete attack in the Broadway Street and Olympic Boulevard areas came in.

Levitt told KTLA’s Rick Chambers that he was back home from work at a restaurant and was in the process of unlocking the building’s doors to his downtown LA apartment building when the attackers attack him.

“By the way I looked up and saw the reflection in the door, I noticed the man running behind me,” he explained. “I raised my arm and stopped, and that’s when he hit me again.”

Levitt suffered multiple serious injuries to his head, requiring staples and a blow to his right wrist, nearly cutting his wrist.

“My tendons were completely cut to the bone. My artery was cut and he was above me at this point.

His attackers never spoke to him, but he made me think that the man would shake a machete at him again, as Levitt had what he described as “crazy eyes.”

A teenager, 15, killed, five others injured in a crash in a parking lot at L.A.

“For some reason, he didn’t,” he said. “He stopped at that moment and signed up for some reason.

Someone in the apartment building hears Levitt knocking on the door and comes to his aid. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent numerous surgeries to reconnect the tendons and save his hands.

He didn’t learn until just a few minutes before, within a mile, another man had been fatally attacked by a suspect.

“It was a set of situations that I was lucky enough to be,” Levitt said.

During an intensive downtown manhunt for the suspect, police found him and arrested him. They also recovered the machete, which is thought to be used in two attacks.

So far, authorities have not announced the identity of the suspect or victim who was killed.

GofundMe is organised to assist Levitt for an estimated months of recovery and physical therapy, and he is unable to work.
