A student has been killed and at least five people injured after being attacked by a vehicle in the private San Fernando Valley School parking lot, authorities announced Wednesday afternoon.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials responded to a report of the incident at Campbell Hall, 4533 Laurel Canyon Boulevard in Studio City shortly after 3pm, firefighters said in a news release.

The incident occurred at the end of school day with pick-up at the rear of campus, according to the LA Police Department.

The boy was pinned and possibly crushed between Libian and the smaller white SUV, officials said. LAFD paramedics rushed him along with his unharmed father, who witnessed the horrifying accident, and were asserted that he had succumbed to his injuries to the hospital and died.

A male high school student was “severely injured” in the parking lot at Campbell Hall in Studio City on June 4, 2025.

Aerial footage of the scene shot by Sky5 showed both police and firefighters at the location where the canopy was placed between Libian and the small white SUV. Canopies are usually used to cover victims suffering from serious injuries before being taken to hospital.

Student pickup takes place at very slow speeds, and there is speculation that Libyan drivers may be inadvertently pounding gasoline pedals instead of brakes on the vehicle, leading to a chain reaction and tragic consequences. However, investigators have not confirmed the details.

Two other students and three adults reportedly were also injured during the incident, firefighters said in an updated release, describing the terms of the condition as “unspecified” and “non-life threats.”

LAFD CPT. Adam van Gelpen said the traumatic ordeal had an impact on all those present.

“A lot of the kids are leaving school and preparing for the summer when they witnessed this,” he said. “And this is difficult for our firefighters, when you have a teenager who is being carried in a critical condition.”

The mayor’s crisis team was on the way to provide emotional support and recovery support to relatives and witnesses on the ground.

Lindsey P. Horvath, LA County Board Director, representing Studio City, has issued a statement regarding the X.

“My heart lies throughout the Campbell Hall community during this tragic time.”

In an email sent to parents along with a private Anglican child obtained by the KTLA, Pastor Canon P. Bull said he and his school officials were “grief” over the tragic losses.

“Our collective minds and ideas lie in our family,” he continued. “We know that the Campbell Hall community will be there for them all in challenging days and weeks ahead. In the meantime, please respect the privacy of your family and take care of this overwhelming loss.”

The email also said there will be no classes or final exams on Thursday, but school community members are welcome to meet at Garber Gym, where counselors will be present between 10am and 12pm.

Lapd Lt. Matthew Bielski said the incident was a tragic accident and the department has allowed the persons involved to not be charged.

KTLA has attempted to contact school staff for comment but has not responded so far.

Stay with KTLA for this developing story.
