The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrests of dozens of people in the ongoing crackdown on crews for retail thefts.
Between May 17 and 30, SBSD officials and representatives from local, state and federal agencies arrested 42 people across the county, SBSD said in a news release.
Of these 42 arrests, 10 were on felony charges and 32 were on misdemeanors.
Additionally, more than $8,100 has been recovered from the property, authorities said.
The arrests are part of Operation Smash & Glove, which targets retail theft, particularly in the “shopping districts of Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville and Chino Hills.”
These robberies, robberies, vandalism and other crimes are committed by a crew of organised burglars who terrorize San Bernardino County citizens by leveraging threatening tactics and mob mentality that creates unstable and unpleasant shopping environments, according to Sheriff’s department.
Officials added that Proposition 36, which was applied to five arrested people, has enacted strict penalties for shoplifters.
