As the once-strong alliance between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk rapidly collapses, the two Titans aren’t just bombarding the president’s “big and beautiful” tax cuts and spending bills.
Trump and Musk, who spent the first four months of the president’s second administration as special White House advisors, are also blowing up each other saying that piloting the recently created Bureau of Government Efficiency (DOGE) should also be credited with Trump’s decisive 2024 election victory.
The president spoke with reporters Thursday, claiming that if he hadn’t had Musk’s help on last year’s campaign trail, “I think I’d have won.”
Musk, the world’s wealthiest person and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, joined Trump last summer and fall.

He approved the GOP presidential candidate in July shortly after an attempt to assassinate Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Musk became the top donor of the 2024 election cycle, handing out nearly $300 million to support Trump’s bids through the US PAC, a super PAC lined with Trump. Much of the money was used in voting efforts and advertising in key battlefield states as Trump and Kamala Harris faced each other for the presidency.
Trump says he is extremely disappointed with Musk after opposing the “largest tax cut in history.”
Musk focused much of his efforts on Pennsylvania.
He joined Trump for the first time on the campaign trail at a rally on October 5th in Butler, Pennsylvania, and held five city halls in Keystone in late October.

Musk established a war room of sorts in Pittsburgh.
Trump pointed to White House Chief Susie Wills, who was the co-chair of Trump’s 2024 campaign, in his reference to how Musk campaigned for him in Pennsylvania.
“Sussie will say he’ll easily beat Pennsylvania anyway.”
Musk appears to have seen Trump’s comments in real time, but he quickly fought back at X. The mask was renamed after purchasing Twitter.
“Without me, Trump would lose the election, Dems would control the House and Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk wrote. “That kind of content.”

Tom Eddie, GOP chairman of Erie County, a longtime key swing county in northwestern Pennsylvania, told Fox News that Musk “helped Trump a lot. I really think so. He has money and has a name.”
But Eddie added, “My gut feelings are that Trump is basically saying, ‘Look, I won the election. These people helped me, but I won.’ That’s what he’s trying to bring. ”
“It played a key role in helping Elon and many others win states across the US,” veteran Republican strategist John Bravender, who served as a media consultant for the 2024 Trump campaign, told Fox News Digital.
“But the bottom line is that there’s only a certain number of people and one person, and that’s President Trump, that’s who people voted,” Brabender added.
Dave Carney, a longtime Republican consultant who has been a veteran of numerous GOP presidential campaigns over the past decades, said the president and Musk are both right.

Calney, another Trump-placed super PAC, promoted to Trump, told Fox News that Trump “may have won without help, but we can’t underestimate how important that help is.”
Pointing to preserving Mask’s American PAC and Maga, which were super PACs lined up with Trump, Carney said that Trump deserved “a tremendous amount of credit” to clean up seven battlefield states and win the White House, “it’s just become easier.”
Kearney also emphasized the “unprecedented field efforts, mail and other communications… to realize these low-estimated Trump voters” of the Super PAC lined up in Musk.
