Transportation Security Administration revealed this week that Costco membership cards are not sufficient to participate in airport security.
“We love HotDogs & Rotisserie chickens as much as the next person, but stop telling people that their Costco cards will count as their actual ID.
The reminder comes less than a month after the US began requesting an actual ID driver’s license when flying domestically on May 7th.

Aside from actual IDs that have strengthened federal standards, domestic flyers can also use other federally approved identification formats, such as passports or Department of Defense issued IDs (but not Costco cards).
“The Department of Defense IDs for active and retired military forces will continue to be IDs of IDs accepted at TSA Checkpoints following the implementation of the actual IDs last month,” the TSA wrote on Facebook Thursday.

After the 2005 law was passed based on the recommendations in the 9/11 Committee Report, the actual ID was available for years until the requirements came into effect.

With many procrastinations just before the deadline, the DMV centres were flooded with long lines between April and early May, and DMVs accepted identification forms such as passports, birth certificates or social security cards to secure their actual IDs.
