(Hill) – Olympian gymnast Simone Biles clashed with conservative activist Riley Gaines over the participation of trans athletes on the Minnesota High School softball team on Friday night.
Gaines opposed the post of the Minnesota State High School League social platform X, which celebrated Shamplin Park High’s first softball state championship victory.
“Comment off haha,” Gaines writes, referring to the X setting in MSHSL. “You’re expected when your star player is a boy.”
The Champlin Park team pitcher identified him as transgender and threw a shutout, bringing a 6-0 victory at Bloomington Jefferson High School on Friday.
“You’re really sick, you’re all about this campaign because you lost the race,” Biles responds to Gaines, a former college swimmer, calling her a “bully” and a “straight painful loser.”
Gaines, who became a political commentator for student athletes, has become a voice critic of the participation of trans athletes in girls and girls’ sports. Her rise on the right comes after she finished fifth in the 2022 NCAA Championship with transgender swimmers and LGBTQ advocate Leah Thomas.
“We should either find ways to lift the trans community and perhaps make sports inclusive, or create a new pathway where trances feel safe in sports,” Villes continued in her thread Friday. “Maybe it’s a transgender category for all sports!!
Earlier this year, Gaines joined President Trump at the White House and signed an executive order banning trans-athletes from participating in sports that match their gender identity. The order prompted an investigation into Minnesota High School’s Sports Governance Agency and the state’s federal funding.
The former University of Kentucky swimmer responded to the defense of the young athlete, the 11-time Olympic medalist, calling her statement “disappointment.”
“It’s not my job or the job of women to understand how to include men in our space,” Gaines wrote to X.
“Men don’t belong to women’s sports. I say that on my chest,” she added.
Last month, a conservative group on behalf of three softball players sued North Star State for its 2015 transgender athletes policy, a local outlet reported.
Late on Friday night, Biles called out Gaines once more, writing to X: “Ironically, it’s going to be your own size.
