The LA County Sheriff’s Office deployed more than 100 deputies on Saturday in response to the protest in Paramount.
Sheriff Robert Luna says the crowd has grown from about 350 to 400, making it violent.
LASD’s agent was not asked to assist immediately, according to LUNA. The sheriff added that more property was destroyed as the crowd grew.
“Everyone has the right to gather peacefully and exercise their First Amendment rights, but when you are crossing boundaries where you are attacking others, and exploiting violence, or destruction of property, it’s where we may step in, warn people, and people may be arrested,” Luna said. “Deputies will protect themselves. I don’t think anyone expects our deputy sheriff to take rocks and bottles without protecting themselves.
According to Luna, an illegal rally was declared after the unruly crowd did not disband.
“We had to broadcast illegal gatherings. Our desire is for everyone here to dissolve peacefully without destroying their property, without violence,” Luna said.
In a social media post, U.S. immigration and customs enforcement agencies said federal law enforcement officials “confronted violent anti-ice riots” on Saturday.
The anxiety comes after a large number of people clashed with federal agents near Home Depot in the 6400 block of Alondora Boulevard.
Tear gas and flash bangs were used to try to disperse the crowd.
So far it is unknown how many people have been in custody.
“As the federal government is sweeping chaotic immigrants across the country, the state is continuing peace by deploying additional CHPs to maintain safety on the Los Angeles Highway. It’s not their job to help enforce federal immigration.” “The federal government is targeting highly workers who erode trust, tear families, and use the American economy.
