Ukrainian President Voldymi Zelenki rejected President Donald Trump’s claim that Russia is serious about pursuing peace on Sunday.
Zelenskyy issued a statement in an interview with host Martha Raddatz on ABC News “This Week.” He argued that although Ukraine is still engaged in ceasefire negotiations, Putin wanted the war to continue.
“I think in my respect for President Trump, that’s just his personal opinion,” Zelensky said when asked about Trump’s views on Putin. “Trust me, we understand the Russians much better, the Russian mentality, more than the Americans understand the Russians. I certainly know Putin doesn’t want to stop the war.”
He pushed back Trump’s analogy and compared the Russian-Ukraine war to two children fighting in the park.

“We don’t play in the park with Russians like two boys, two kids. Putin is not a child. We can’t compare and we can’t let them fight for a while,” Zelensky said, telling the story of a Ukrainian who lost his wife and three children to a missile strike.
“So we’re not kids on the playground. Putin is a murderer who came to the park to kill the kids,” he added.
Trump made analogy last week during a state visit by German Prime Minister Friederrich Merz.

“Occasionally, you see two young children fighting like crazy. They hate each other, they fight in the park, and you try to pull them apart, they don’t want to be pulled,” Trump said. “It’s better to let them fight for a while and then pull them away.”
Trump said last week he gave his call with Putin a similarity with him, telling the Kremlin chief, “Maybe you have to continue to fight and suffer a lot.”
