A coalition of California lawmakers and immigration advocates was denied entry to the US immigration and customs enforcement facility in Adelanto, where many immigrants are in custody during the recent attack in Los Angeles.

Rep. Gilbert R. Cisneros Jr. (CA-31) along with Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) (CA-28) and Derek Tran (CA-45) and members of the Humanitarian Immigration Rights Coalition (Chirla) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) were moved to the Adelanto Ice Processing Center Sunday morning, according to media release from Cisneros.

“I tried to monitor Congress at the Adelanto Ice facility… They locked the gates, ignored our call and refused US entries,” Rep. Cisneros said. “Under Trump’s instructions, ICE and DHS agents are ignoring the law by harassing our community, questioning our neighbors and blocking surveillance.”

“Trump is intentionally confused and incites fear,” he added. “As our community is under attack, I will continue to ask for answers.”

The 31st Congressional District, under the Cisneros constituency, includes many of the San Gabriel Valley, and many of the area’s predominantly Hispanic community. Rep. Chu represents much of the northeastern Los Angeles County in District 28, while Rep. Tran represents District 45, which covers parts of LA and Orange County.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez, CA-34, another local member of the council, told KTLA on Saturday that the detained immigrants were denied entry to the facility held in downtown Los Angeles.

Gomez, which has many of Los Angeles’ most prominent ethnic enclaves in the 34th District, said the Trump administration “acts outside the boundaries of the law” by not letting Congressional members go to detention facilities to oversee.
