Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass spoke to KTLA on Sunday morning to discuss the response from federal officials, including the city-wide and the large-scale LA area ice attacks, and the decision by President Donald Trump to deploy thousands of National Guard forces.

“I’m so disappointed with it [Trump] I chose to [deploy the National Guard] Because it was just not necessary,” Bus said in a phone interview.

The mayor continued to say that he was told there were about 120 protesters in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night.

“For me, this is totally unnecessary and I think it’s [Trump] “I’ve spoken with the governor several times…I haven’t spoken to the president yet, but I’ve spoken with high officials in his administration, and I have told them that things aren’t out of control in the city of Los Angeles.”

“There were a few issues with Paramount, but I’m very seriously skeptical that there is also a need for the National Guard,” she added. “For me, this is just political.”

Speaking about what she told federal officials, Bass said she was in contact with Border Emperor Tom Homan and explicitly told him, “If there’s any confusion in Los Angeles, we’ll have an army on the ground.”

Mayor Bass also said that the immigrants who were detained were not found in downtown Los Angeles and likely moved to an ice facility in Adelanto. She was not explained about the conditions in which they were kept.

“What I’m urging the administration is to allow lawyers to come in and talk to people who are detained,” Bus explained. “That’s how it happened in the past and there’s no reason to break that practice.”

On the topic, Bass said when federal officials spoke to them, he was “open to it” and that she “looks forward to following up” on Sunday.

“I hope they have made a decision,” she said.

Federal officials criticized local law enforcement agencies who are suspected of slow response times to the protest. This is unfair to Mayor Bass’s Chief Jim McDonnell and his counterparts.

“I think people should understand that if they don’t know when the ice will come to town, where they are and why, then you can’t come to town and expect the LAPD to gather hundreds of officers in a matter of minutes,” she said. “My understanding was that it took about an hour. [full deployment]. ”

There was also a message to the protesters on the base.

“absolutely [the protesters’] While we have the right to exercise the First Amendment, it is completely unacceptable that there are levels of violence and vandalism of any kind,” she said. [resulted] With the National Guard [being deployed]. ”

President Donald Trump has publicly called out both Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom for “unable to handle the task” of screaming for demonstrations. Newsom called Trump’s choice to “deliberately inflammatory” deployment of thousands of security guards, and within ten minutes, Trump repeatedly said that “the federal government will step in and solve the problem.”

The unrest began Friday, and continued until Saturday, when federal agents began raids in downtown and Westlake areas of Los Angeles, and another attack on Paramount. The protest had spread from Paramount and nearby Compton to DTLA by Saturday evening.

Multiple demonstrations are planned on Sunday as the situation unfolds and political discourse continues.
