The rescuers were called on Sunday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Cessna 414 was reported before 1pm, according to the San Diego Fire Force and the U.S. Coast Guard.
“We have a field of debris, but I don’t have that size at the moment,” Ryan Graves, a petty Coast Guard officer, told NBC 7 before 3:30pm.

San Diego’s Lifeguards, Coast Guard and U.S. Border Patrol support rescue operations. Officials said it was happening about three miles from the coast. A staging area has been established at LifeGuard headquarters in Quivera Basin, officials said.
“Currently, the search is one Jayhawk Helo from Air Staventura, one small boat each from CGC Sea Otter, one small boat from Sta SD & The MSST, and several partner institutions.”
