One Canadian had luck with four draws instead of two.

David Selkin, from the Lethbridge area of Alberta, Canada, won $1 million in the Loto 6/49 classic draw on May 3rd.

This marked Selkin’s third lottery win within nine months.

In 2024, Selkin won $500,000 in the Lotomax draw on August 20th and $1 million in the Loto 6/49 draw on November 16th.

Now Toronto has reported that Selkin’s luck has even gone back in the decade. He previously won $250,000 in another draw more than a decade ago for three peats.

“We know that odds are astronomical,” he said in a WCLC press release. “I don’t think it’s going to happen again, but I still love buying tickets.”

So far, it was definitely possible in Selkin’s favor.

For each WCLC, there is one chance of winning a Lotomax Jackpot or Max Millions Award at 33,294,800. In the case of a gold ball draw, the odds are determined each time based on the total number of selections across Canada.

Selkin has been a longtime player in Loto 6/49 since its launch in 1982, enjoying the routine of buying and checking out the winner’s tickets.

“I’ll be happy if I check my tickets and win,” he explained. “If not, you can always try again.”

Selkin also shared the deeper personal meaning behind his success rate, adding, “I am a cancer survivor and I am retired, so I am grateful for everything.”

“I bought this ticket while I was buying gas,” he said. “I saw the gold ball draw approaching (to the final ball choice) and thought, ‘What should I lose?’ ”

Selkin’s victory ticket was purchased at Shelllessbridge, 2440 Fairway Plaza Road S, Lethbridge.

Naturally, Selkin’s friends and loved ones continue to be shocked by his year-long succession of good fortune. After checking his tickets, he shared that he went out for coffee with a friend and they were shocked that he won again.

Selkin said his wife was also in awe. They were able to create some special memories with the money he earned.

“I took my wife to Hawaii with my final victory and we had a great time,” he said. “We’re heading to Newfoundland now!”
