By noon, hundreds had gathered outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles, where people were detained after previous immigrant raids. The protesters oversaw the chants “shame” and “go home” to members of the National Guard.

After some protesters approached the guards closely, another set of officers in uniform advanced in groups, shooting them into the street through a smokey canister.

Minutes later, the Los Angeles Police Department fired crowd-controlled force ammunition to disperse the protesters. Many of the groups then moved to block traffic on the 101 highway until California Highway Patrol Officers cleared them from the road by late afternoon.
