Jamie Fox gave an emotional speech at the 2025 BET Awards Monday night, embracing the honor of the ultimate icon and shed tears as she overcomes the horrors of health that threatened audiences to tears at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

When he took the stage, the Oscar and the Grammy winner recalled seeing Memoam’s tribute segment from his seat.

“When I saw Memoam, I was like, ‘Man, that might have been me,'” said Fox, who was hospitalized in 2023 after suffering a stroke.

Having struggled to hold back tears, the 57-year-old was grateful for giving him a “second chance” in his life.

“I don’t know why I went through anything I went through, but I know my second chance. I will not refuse,” Fox said, his voice cracking with gratitude. “I love giving, I hug him [God]I said, “Man, give this one more crack. Whatever the reason you put this on me, I promise I am right.” … You cannot go through such a thing, and do not testify. ”

FOXX was awarded by musical legend Stevie Wonder. In the audience, his two daughters and sister wiped away tears. FOXX also acknowledged the role his children played in helping him recover.

“My beautiful daughter, Colin, I can’t say enough about you,” Fox said. “You’ve always betrayed everything, but when you had to drive it, you drove, and you made sure I was here.

Of his daughter, Annelies Esther Fox, the “condemnation” singer said: “When I was fighting for my life there, I have to say this. They said, “We’ll lose him because his vitals are bad.” And while I didn’t want a 14-year-old to see me that way, Annelies listened to the conversation.

He continued, “And when she played the guitar, my vitals (improvement). And I realized that God was in her guitar. The nurse ran and said, ‘What did they give him?” My daughter said, “I have him.”

Jamie Foxx is kicking in 2025. While chatting with Access Hollywood’s Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover at the 2025 Golden Globes, Jamie opens up about the special nurse he encountered while fighting his recent health horrors, and cooking for his new comedy special, “Go to Church.”

FOXX revealed about his “Mystery Disease” in 2024’s Netflix Special, “Jamie Foxx: What Happened.”

He said on April 11, 2023 he began experiencing bad headaches and asked a friend for aspirin. At the time, he was working on the film “Back in Action” with Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz, which was released on Netflix earlier this year.

The first headache began a miserable time for FOXX. “I don’t remember for 20 days,” he said in the special.

Once I arrived at the hospital, the doctor immediately performed the surgery with FOXX. They were unable to find the original source of the cerebral hemorrhage, but they believed he could fully recover, but they told his sister it was difficult.

According to FOXX, the cause of the medical emergency is still unknown.

“That’s a mystery,” he said early in the special. “We still don’t know exactly what happened to me. All I can tell you is that I am grateful for all my prayers because I needed them all.”

Born in Terrell, Texas in 1967, Fox was a stand-up comedian before breaking into television in 1990 with various roles in the Fox TV musical comedy “In Living Color.”

FOXX portrayed Ray Charles in the 2004 biopic “Ray,” and won the Academy Award for Grammy Award for “Blame It” in 2010.

His other credits include “The Jamie Fox Show,” “Collected,” and “django unchained.”

Jamie Foxx is grateful for the opportunity to share his side of the 2023 health horror story. On Monday, October 14th, the actor posted to Instagram, reflecting his personal one-man show, “One More Chance: Night with Jamie Foxx,” which took place in Atlanta on October 3-5th. “God is good. When I post these photos, my heart and my soul are filled with nothing but pure joy. [third] Fourth and fifth, I had the opportunity to tell my side of the story, and there was no better place than Atlanta Georgia. I have to thank Atlanta so you showed up and I wasn’t on stage for 18 years, but the stage was necessary, but an audience consisting solely of pure love. The comedian further said: largely. ” The “Django Unchained” star was hospitalized in April 2023 following a private “medical complication.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
