Shainbaum of Mexico refutes Noem’s accusations that she “encourages” violence in Los Angeles

Mexico City – It began in an oval office as a softball question to President Trump on Tuesday. Has he had any reaction to Mexican President Claudia Sinbaum’s comments about Los Angeles unrest?

“What did she say?” Trump asked.

“She condemned violence in LA,” the reporter replied.

“I too,” Trump said.

He then handed the floor to the Department of Homeland Security’s Christie Noem Department.

“Claudia Sheinbaum came out and encouraged more protests in LA. I denounce her for that,” Noem said. “She should not encourage the violent protests that are happening.”

Comments reverberated on social media and Mexican news channels, exploded like cannons across the bow of US-Mexican relations.

Shanebaum, who worked hard to build a constructive relationship with the Trump White House and met Noem in Mexico City in March, did not hesitate. “Absolutely wrong,” she wrote to X.

There is no official evidence to support Noem’s claim.

In her response to Noem’s comments on Tuesday in X, Sheinbaum posted a 25-second clip from her remarks on Monday at a Morning press conference. The president repeatedly condemned violence while dealing with Los Angeles’ protests over immigrant attacks.

“We do not agree with violence as a form of protest,” Sinbaum told reporters Monday. “The burning of police cars looks more like an act of provocation than resistance. It should be clear. We condemn violence from everywhere.”

Sheinbaum added: “We are urging our Mexican community to act peacefully and not to fall into provocation.”

In X, Sheinbaum also repeated her support for an estimated 11 million Mexican immigrants in the United States. The president has rejected both violence and raids as solutions to illegal immigration.

“Our position will continue to be the defense of honest, hardworking Mexicans who support the economy of the United States and its families in Mexico,” writes Sinbaum. “I am confident that dialogue and respect are the best routes for understanding between our people and our nation, and this misunderstanding will be revealed.”

Special correspondent Cecilia Sanchez Vidal contributed to this report.
