The proposal implements a dramatic increase from the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, which has been in place for over 15 years.

The purchasing power of the US dollar has been heavily eroded over the years by inflation.
Under the proposed law, the annual increase to the federal minimum wage of $15 per hour per year is based on the rate of increase (or successor index) of the consumer price index for urban and administrative workers published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Cuomo says that if there is an elected mayor, the NYC minimum wage will increase to $20 an hour.
“We are in the midst of a severe affordability crisis, with families in the red and blue states struggling to buy essentials like housing and groceries. Stagnant federal minimum wages simply add fuel to the fire.
“Times are changing, and working families deserve wages that reflect today’s financial reality. I am proud to lead this bipartisan effort to raise the minimum wage nationwide to help more people achieve their goals,” the senator added.
In X’s post, conservative commentator Dana Roche denounced the idea of raising the federal minimum wage and opposed the defense of Holy’s policy.

“This is a scary, progressive idea,” Roche claimed in a tweet.
