Firefighters have made some progress in housing a raging ranch fire near Apple Valley, but they have expressed doubts about the situation being advantageous.
The containment of the 4,205-acre flames had risen to 10% by Wednesday morning, but firefighters said the weather on Wednesday and Thursday would make further progress more difficult.
On Wednesday afternoon, the combination of low humidity and “increased south winds and gusts of wind up to 32 mph” created “conditions that could challenge containment efforts.”
That number is higher than previous estimates of 26 mph gusts.
“A poor to moderate overnight recovery is expected and similar weather continues through Thursday,” the agency added. “The crew will focus on strengthening containment lines, protecting structures and ongoing efforts throughout the day.”
The ranch fire evacuation area will be seen on June 11th, 2025.
The fire has already destroyed at least one home, with mandatory evacuations from Milpas Drive to High Road and south of Highway 18.
An evacuation shelter was established at Sitting Bull Academy on Sitting Bull Road, Ringo Valley in 19445. Animal Evacuation Centre has opened at Victorville Fairgrounds, 1400 7th St.
