Sen. Dick Durbin said Wednesday he has no recollections of his fellow Democrat colleagues who have mentioned “peace” the anti-ice protest in Los Angeles.
“What does Democrat mean when you say the riots in Los Angeles are peace?” Durbin was asked by a reporter outside the Capitol.
“I’ve never heard them say that,” Durbin replied. The reporter asked Durbin if he condemned the ongoing anti-ice protest in Los Angeles.
“I condemn violence, whether it’s Capitol or LA,” Durbin fired back before he could escape from his ears.
California officials are trying to deny “chaos” for “political interests,” sheriffs say.
The Senate Second Democrat may not have heard any of his fellow party members use the word “peace” to describe the ongoing turmoil in Los Angeles, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have it.
“Many of these peaceful protests are being created by the US president’s chaos,” Sen. Corey Booker, DN.J., said on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” on NBC.
Just the day before, President Donald Trump called out thousands of National Guard troops to go to Los Angeles to quell the ongoing chaos, including law enforcement, property damage and attacks on looting.
“The majority of protesters and demonstrators are in peace,” Sen. Alex Padilla of D-Calif told MSNBC. “They are passionate.”

Rep. Nanette Barragan, a Democrat who represents California’s 44th Congressional District, said in CNN’s “Confederation Status” program on Sunday that “we have an administration targeting peaceful protests.”

Conservative critics also fought back after former vice president Kamala Harris called the ongoing chaos “overwhelmingly peace.”
“The country really dodged the bullet in November,” Fox News contributor Guy Benson posted to X in response to Harris’ social media post. In another post, Benson said, “Their official position is that they are appalled at what’s going on in Los Angeles… not for the violent mob, but for Trump and the ice. In its current form, this party cannot be saved.”
Dozens of anti-ice raids arrested in Los Angeles as Trump sends National Guard to suppress violence
Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got a fever after describing the situation in Los Angeles as “peace.”
“California Governor Newsom didn’t demand that the National Guard be deployed to the state following a peaceful demonstration. Trump sent them anyway. It was the first time the president has made that choice. Clinton posted to X.

At the start of this almost week-long turmoil, there were initially examples of peaceful protests, but by the start of the weekend, property destruction and violence had erupted, causing an increasingly violent situation over the next few days. Several police officers were injured during the riot, including other projectiles where rocks and other projectiles were thrown, and dozens of people were arrested in connection with the protest and riots.
Looting is just as problematic as property damage, with Democrat Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass enacting a citywide curfew on Tuesday evening.
In rare internal and internal opposition, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) criticized his own party this week for not properly condemning the violence in Los Angeles.

“This is disorderly and true confusion,” the Pennsylvania Democrats said in a Monday post on the X, along with photos of cars destroyed in the fire. “My party loses moral highlands when it refuses to burn car settings, destroy buildings and attack law enforcement.”
“I am a negative representation of freedom of speech, peaceful demonstrations and immigration,” Fetterman added. “But this isn’t.”
