I love Costco, but don’t like crowds? It may be time to upgrade your membership.
The warehouse retailer is giving new perks to those paying for the executive membership class, the company said in an email to its members on Wednesday. Executive members who pay $130 a year rather than a baseline $65 fee can quickly shop 30 minutes to an hour earlier than the public.
Exclusive shopping hours are from 9am to 10am on weekdays and Sundays. Saturdays will be shortened from 9am to 9:30am
Goldstar members, who pay $65 each year, must wait until they enter the warehouse until the executive members’ shopping hours are over.
The new perks are scheduled to begin on June 30th.
Chile changed its most popular burger and no one noticed it, CEO says
It was not immediately clear whether all warehouses would allow early bird access at the same time, or whether the rollout would vary from location to location. It was also unclear how the changes would be implemented in the currently open location at the initial start time of 9am. (Most locations around the US are open on Saturdays at 9:30am and 10am the rest of the week, but open daily at 9am.)
The company did not respond to requests for details on Nexstar.
Costco Insider reports that early access shopping hours have already been tested in several warehouses in Michigan.
Executive members have already received additional perks in exchange for higher membership fees, including additional discounts on most purchases and travel, car, or insurance services.
