Cuomo takes heat in discussion about the Covid Nursing Home scandal

Prior to the mayoral debate in New York City, former New York Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo contradicted that despite earlier testimony from Congress, he had seen a report detailing the number of deaths in COVID nursing homes and may have changed the report.

Speaking to news from local outlet Pix 11 on Wednesday, Cuomo said, “I didn’t remember seeing the report back then. I saw the report.

He also said, “After reading the report, I’m sure I’ve made a language change.”

Despite this, Cuomo said the published report was “accurate,” and “this has been politicized from day one.”

Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 amid allegations of sexual harassment, is a leading candidate to run for mayor of New York City. However, he continues to face criticism of allegations of fraud, as well as claiming that he has changed reports to fill the number of deaths in elderly homes during Covid-19.

In the first New York mayor’s debate last week, Democrats blew up Cuomo, who allegedly lied to Congress, an alleged argument promoted by Republicans that the Trump administration is currently investigating.

The Trump Justice Department launched a criminal investigation in May, reaching the bottom of whether Cuomo lied to Congress about the decision he made during the Covid-19 pandemic while serving as governor.

Cuomo repeatedly rejected questions about whether he lied to Congress about his role in drafting the New York Department of Health report. Instead, Cuomo denounced the current investigation as a symptom of partisan politics, claiming that the report in question “did not make up for death.”

He admitted on Wednesday to falsely testify about not looking at the report or making changes, but Cuomo continued to maintain the accuracy of that number.

“With so many misinformation being spread, let’s make the record clear. New York has always followed federal guidance on what to do with nursing homes from the best federal health and sincerely available,” he said.

He said the federal guidance “changed over time as federal officials learned more,” and “states and other states followed federal leadership.”

“When everything was said and done, New York is 38th in nursing home mortality rates. Think about it. 38 out of 50 states. Only 12 states have lower mortality rates than New York,” he said.

Cuomo is expected to face again fierce questions from opponents and moderators about the report in his second mayoral debate Thursday night.
