LA Mayor urges Trump administration to stop immigration operations – NBC Los Angeles

The lack of federal coordination with Los Angeles leaders said at a press conference on Saturday that it has cities that “work based on rumors.”

When asked about the working relationship between the federal government and local law enforcement, Bass replied to a reporter, “The fact that you raised that question is problematic would not even question whether it was cooperation between the federal government and local government.”

The Trump administration is in conflict with leaders in Los Angeles and California, who ordered immigrant raids in Southern California. The attacks led to massive protests in Los Angeles, with demonstrators and police officers occasionally clashing. Things escalated when President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard to mobilize in Los Angeles.

Both California leaders said no notice was given prior to mobilization, and the nation sued the Trump administration as a result. A federal judge ruled that the president outweighed the power to activate the National Guard and blocked the move, but the federal court of appeals upheld Trump’s flank and allowed military presences to remain in Los Angeles.

“You can imagine the concerns and fears that it creates when you don’t really know what one of you is doing,” Bass said. “I’m still waiting for the President to ask if I’ll call, but this really creates a completely unnecessary sense of confusion.”

Here is the timeline for the event, where ice attacks have led to protests in LA from June 6th: Karma Dickerson reports on NBC4 News.

Jim McDonnell of the Los Angeles Police Department said his department and federal officials are on “two separate missions” regarding anxiety. He emphasized that the LAPD is not participating in immigration operations.

“Our mission is to be public safety in the city of Los Angeles and we work with all the partners you see here and many other partners to help keep everyone in the city safe,” McDonnell said. “So, two separate missions.”

The mayor said he is continuing his efforts to get the White House to stop the military presence in Los Angeles.

“My message to the President is consistent every day. Please stop the attack,” she said. “If we stop the attack, it will help calm Los Angeles. Los Angeles was calm a week before the attack began.”
