Local families are being rewind after being directly influenced by the presidential administration as thousands of demonstrators descended on Long Beach on Saturday to condemn President Donald Trump’s policies as part of a nationwide movement called the “No Kings” protest.
A loved one of 50-year-old Rosario Gonzalez says they are heartbroken after the family head was detained by immigration officers during an assault outside the Home Depot in Whittier. Contrary to his family’s wishes, Gonzalez went to Home Depot in search of work as he is the main provider of his family. He was one of several individuals detained during the attack.
“I just want to say I love him, I hope he comes back,” said Yamillett Gonzalez, Rosario’s 18-year-old daughter. “I know he’s going to do that, and we all know he’s waiting for him to be here.”
In tears, Yamillett said that if possible, she would reassure her family’s resilience and happiness father when she overcomes his absence.
“I know he’s fine and when he comes back I’ll tell him how my day went and how graduation turned out,” the boy said. “And I’ll tell him I’ve done a lot of videos so that he can feel like he was there, even if he couldn’t.”
Yamillet graduated from Jordan High School on Tuesday – the day after his father was taken into custody. She said Rosario was being held in a Texas detention center and his loved ones were able to keep in touch with him.
Rosario, a grandfather and father of five, moved from Mexico to the United States 28 years ago. The man’s family said he had hired an attorney to help Rosario fight his case.
