Last year, a mall in Chesterfield, Missouri was set to close, and a few months before the demolition began, residents noticed hundreds of Tesla cars were parked in the lot.
One of the few structures that still stands after the massive demolition of the mall is Dillard, located on the west side of the former mall ground. Before that there is a vast car park with hundreds of Teslas parked there.
Parked vehicles include a variety of models, including red, dark blue, gray, white and black. Among them are dozens of Tesla Cybertrucks.
But why are all these Teslas parked outside the Dillard, which is no longer open?

The Staenberg Group, one of the partners leading the mall’s demolition and redevelopment, told KTLA’s sister station KTVI that it was part of the continuation of the lease that began last August before the mall closed its doors.
“Tesla has a short-term lease to park Teslas at Chesterfield Mall. When we began demolishing the mall, we moved them to Dillard’s plot,” said Tim Lowe to KTVI, Senior Vice President of Leases and Development at Staenberg Group.
Lowe says Dillard’s lot has recently owned between 200 and 400 Tesla vehicles everywhere at a time.
Teslas is likely to remain there until Dillard begins renovations with a long-term plan to reopen the store, KTVI learned.
Michael Staenberg, president of the Staenberg Group, says Tesla has been parked outside Dillard in about six months on a lease of about 32 months.

Tesla’s nearest dealer is three miles away from the mall on Chesterfield Airport Road, with several retailers just west of the shopping centre. Dillard’s parking will now serve as a temporary overflow site, Staenberg said, as dealers don’t have enough space to park their entire inventory.
Staenberg says security is not a big deal. The Staenberg Group has set up security cameras to monitor activity, instructing workers to patrol the property, and several entry points are also blocked by orange traffic cones.
KTVI contacted the Tesla Press Communications line to comment on the parked vehicle, but did not receive an immediate response.
