The Inland Empire man was arrested after threatening to shoot in Palm Springs in a “no-kings” protest, police said.
Edward Miranda, 28, of La Quinta, was arrested after the Palm Springs Police Department noticed an online threat targeting the demonstration. Officers were notified of the threat the day before the meeting was scheduled for.
The suspect was found at his home and was taken into custody safely. Palm Springs officials executed search warrants at their Riverside County home and another San Bernardino County home. There, a gun belonging to Miranda was seized.
“We take all threats to public safety seriously and vehemently pursue what we aim to commit violence in our community,” Prime Minister Andrew Mills said. “Along with the tireless efforts of PSPD detectives and FBI partners, the vigilance of community members who saw something and said something, allowed us to identify and understand the suspects and ensure the safety of tonight’s event.”
No injuries have been reported in connection with the protest in Palm Springs.
The investigation is underway. Anyone with more information about the case will be asked to contact the Palm Springs Police Department at 760-327-1441. Anonymous tips can be created by contacting Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
