More than 30 people were arrested and a handful of police officers were injured during the “no Kings” protest in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said at least 35 people were arrested on Saturday. Accusations related to the arrest included curfews, failure to leave, resistance to police, impediment, obstruction or delay, and resistance to arrest.
In response to looting and vandalism committed on downtown businesses, LA Mayor Karen Bass has announced a downtown curfew that is about a mile. Those who do not live or work in the area must leave from 8pm to 6am. The curfew will remain in effect until further notice.
Bass described the curfew as a success, leading to better control over violence and vandalism in the area.
Three police officers were injured in connection with Saturday’s rally, according to the LAPD. The scope of these injuries is not specified. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell told NBC4 that seven officials were injured in the demonstration, but the department later lowered that figure to three in a press release.
Since June 7, LAPD has made 561 arrests related to the protest. A total of 12 officers have been injured in connection with the rally since.
