The suspension that affected customers in Los Angeles, Vanny and surrounding areas on Sunday morning is said to be caused by a spectrum called “villainous criminal activity,” and the company is currently offering rewards to help find the person responsible.
“Early this morning, our fiber optic line was intentionally cut off in Los Angeles due to vandalism,” the internet and cable provider shared in a statement. Spectrum did not immediately specify the number of customers affected by the textile cut, but said the temporary suspension had an impact on “some residents and businesses.”
According to the company, “criminal acts of network vandalism” have become increasingly common throughout the telecommunications industry, primarily due to rising prices of precious metals.
“These vandalisms are not only criminal, but also affect customers, local businesses and potentially emergency services,” Spectrum said. “Spectrum’s fiber lines do not contain copper.”
No arrests have been made in connection with Sunday’s incident, Spectrum said he is working with Los Angeles police in the investigation.
Spectrum added that it offers a reward of up to $25,000 to eligible individuals who provide reliable information that directly leads to the arrest of those responsible for destroying or stealing network infrastructure.
To qualify, the company said it must provide information on the spectrum of 833-404-TIPS (8477) and provide it to local law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction over the crime. Spectrum focused on prosecuting people who intentionally harm the network.
In the meantime, Spectrum said its service in the Los Angeles area has been recovering and it appreciates its customers for its patience.
