As federal immigrant agents continue to raid in Southern California and continue to create fear of communities across the region, South Los Angeles neighbours confronted sheriff’s deputies on Monday, believing they would be with U.S. immigration and customs enforcement facilities.
The tense conflict unfolded in South Park outside the home near McKinley Avenue and East 49th Avenue, many of which were caught up in cell phone cameras.
Footage of the incident obtained by the KTLA shows a crowd of residents swarming LA County Sheriff’s deputies screaming at them as they carried out an operation that KTLA said was part of an ongoing investigation.
The young child was seen in the arms of a woman who was being escorted by lawmakers into a pickup truck, where she loads the child and slowly drives out of the area with the help of law enforcement.
There have been other unconfirmed reports that the teenage girl was also in custody.
The false identity case led to dozens of conflicts with South Park lawmakers on June 16, 2025, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Office. “Someone said the ice was outside,” the nearby woman told KTLA. “By the time we went outside, we saw these quiet people living here, they don’t care…[deputies] They were everywhere. They insisted it wasn’t ice, but yes, it was. ”
Nevertheless, the Sheriff’s department statement regarding operations and the fact that, by department policy, they did not share information with US immigration and customs enforcement, refused to believe that their presence was unrelated to ice.

“They were laughing at people’s faces, [saying]”You’re so ignorant, we’re not ice,” said Isabella Cartitra, who witnessed the incident. “I think it’s because they were tearing people apart.”
According to one of its members, Ron Gosches, the Union del Barrio has been patrolling the streets since 2020 in search of immigration enforcement activities.
“What we’re looking at at South Central right now is resistance,” he told KTLA. “People came out on McKinley on the 49th and were denounced the sheriff with a 3-year-old girl. Now, people in this neighborhood are young people on scooters, bikes.
Gochez added that many in the community feel that they have no choice but to stand up and act.
“Politicians have done nothing for us,” Gosches said. “The police and sheriff are helping. They work with the ice, so the only people can protect them.”
Sheriff’s officials have so far provided no additional information regarding operations carried out in the South Park area.
