Police arrested a man who said he was seriously injured a woman during a weekend demonstration in downtown Riverside, running through a crowd of protesters.
It happened on University Avenue between Orange Street and Main Street around 9:10pm on Saturday. There, thousands gathered to protest from hundreds of “kings” around the world.
Police said a black SUV ran into the crowd and attacked the young woman before fleeing the scene.

Video posted online showed the moment when the vehicle spun towards the protesters and accelerated, showing that it had hit at least one person before driving. “They just ran my sister,” I heard the woman scream on the footage.
Paramedics handled the injured woman at the scene and took her to the hospital.
Using the license plate on the SUV, the robbery wet detective identified the driver as Russell Prentiss, 58, of Riverside.
Russell Prentiss, 58, is shown in this mug shot provided by the Riverside Police Department. Kandasewentzel, 39, is shown in this mug shot provided by the Riverside Police Department.
Prentiss was arrested Monday in the 4700 block of Jackson Street and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he awaits charges of fatal weapons and hit-and-run attacks.
Police also arrested Kandase Wentzel, 39, of Riverside. They say they moved the vehicle to Phelan and tried to destroy the evidence and hide it. She is facing accessory charges following the facts and destruction of evidence, police said.
“From field officers that night to detectives who quickly began their investigation, along with support from the Crime Analysis Unit and Metro team, the case was quickly resolved thanks to their combined efforts,” said Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez. “Equally important were tips we received from the community.”
The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information will be urged to contact the Riverside Police Department.
