Arizona and Texas are expected to build more border walls following recent actions from the federal government.
In Grand Canyon, US Customs and Border Protection has built a 27-mile wall for the Tucson administration, over $300 million, at Fisher Sand & Gravel. The contractor was used throughout Trump’s first term.
Specifically, the development will take place in Santa Cruz County. This is largely rural counties, including Nogales, and the funds have already been allocated to CBP’s 2021 budget, according to the CBP. While Biden took office, many border wall contracts were scrapped, leading to material sitting at the border, including the Tucson sector.

Homeland Security Secretary Christa Noem has taken several steps to speed up the construction of border walls in areas with gaps in Arizona, California and Texas, and has granted environmental exemptions primarily to avoid “delays in management.”
Wednesday’s announcement noted that the fifth waiver has been signed off by the secretary used on the 17-mile wall of Texas’ Rio Grande Valley sector.
Earlier this month, DHS cleared a 36-mile path to wall development in Arizona and New Mexico, including Tucson, El Paso and Yumasector. Additionally, Golden State is expected to clear environmental exemptions earlier this year, with more wall construction expected.
“We praise President Trump’s commitment to border security and look forward to the completion of the wall across the southern border,” Yuma County Superintendent Jonathan Lein said at the time.

“The border crisis is not over yet, and our federal government must continue to equip the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Agents with the tools, technologies and resources needed to provide the right national security to keep America safe,” Line continued.

Opponents of wall construction have long cited environmental concerns, including the risks of wildlife. The Blue State, like advocacy groups such as the Sierra Club and the American Civil Liberties Union, has crossed the walls and sued the federal government in recent past.
Meanwhile, since President Donald Trump took office in January, the southern borders have been quiet.
