A man was killed after he ran into his own semi truck when the rear ended by another truck in Long Beach.
On June 18, Long Beach Police responded to a crash in the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue at 6:40 a.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim stopped the vehicle along the curb line. He left the exit and stood next to the engine compartment.
The sudden impact forced him to the ground and he ran into his truck, which was advancing in the crash, police said.
Despite life-saving measures, he was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
The second truck driver remains on the scene and assists in the investigation.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police said speed, distracted driving and driving impaired seem to be factors.
The victim’s identity is withheld as notification of the next relative by a Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is pending.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call LBPD detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
