Vice President JD Vance is traveling to Los Angeles on Friday. This is because the recent enforcement of the Trump administration’s immigration policy has sparked continued unrest and protest within the city.
Vance will be touring the multi-agency Federal Joint Operations Center and the Federal Mobile Command Center during his visit, the White House announced Friday morning.
He is also scheduled to meet with leadership and the Marines before making a brief statement.
The Vice President’s visit comes amidst the ongoing upheaval of the city-wide upheaval over the operation and deportation of US immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agents.

Earlier this month, Vance posted about the demonstration on social media.
“While foreign flag-carrying rebels are attacking immigration enforcement officials, half of American political leaders have determined that border enforcement is bad,” reads his June 7 post on X.
Meanwhile, local politicians, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, spoke publicly about the deployment of the Los Angeles administration’s military, saying it was unconstitutional and only burned the situation.
“To have the federal government come in and take powers from the governor when it wasn’t requested is an incredible overdue of presidential authority because it wasn’t necessary,” Bass said in an interview on June 10.
Governor Newsom and state attorney general Rob Bonta filed an emergency motion to stop what is called “illegal militarization” in Los Angeles. But they suffered another set Thursday when the appeals court allowed President Donald Trump to maintain control of the National Guard troops he deployed in the area.
