It’s been a tough road for many large retailers these days, with chains like Macy’s, Big Lot and LL flooring, which have been closing US locations in recent months due to financial difficulties.
Swedish furniture juggernaut IKEA continues to expand its footprint, but is not entirely immune to the same consumer shopping trends that plague counterparts, from the surge in online sales to recent developments such as President Donald Trump’s trade war.

IKEA announced that it will close the location of its Long Beach Plan and Order Points in June this year.
Planning and Order Points, also known as Planning Studios, are intended to provide IKEA’s design help in a small format to urban centers. There are no maze-like warehouse passages. There is no stock at the site either.
Long Beach is expected to close this month, according to location street at 7611 Carson Blvd.

“There is an increased demand for clicking to collect services, a smaller selection of furniture accessories, and the ability to return goods to physical IKEA units, something that the current location cannot provide due to the available space,” an IKEA spokesman told the street.
That said, IKEA has not retreated from the planning studio concept. Many locations will still be opening in the US in 2025 and 2026.
