Washington Democratic Party Chairman Shasti Conrad was elected vice-chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Friday, ending the months-long David Hogg controversy in which the 25-year-old progressive leader resigned from party leadership.

The second voting period for the DNC’s “any gender” vice-chairman election ended Friday night as Conrad won the majority of the votes cast by DNC members. Earlier in the week, the candidates were unable to secure a majority and Gianna Lepas was eliminated in the first round of the vote.

Hogg announced the exit from DNC leadership last week after members voted to host the reelection of the two vice-chair positions that won the February 1 party election in support of a resolution proposed by longtime Democratic activist Kalyn Free.

“I am honored to be vice-chairman of the Democratic National Committee and am deeply grateful to the members who have trusted me,” Conrad said in a statement. “This was the longest election in DNC history, and all voting cast reflected our shared belief that we would build a stronger, more inclusive Democrat.”

DNC Chairman Ken Martin celebrated her victory and described Conrad as “a pioneer who understands the importance of defending our community and making efforts on earth to help Democrats move up and down the vote.”

DNC chair tore David Hogg in party-in-flying at leak meeting audio: “It’s really frustrating”

Kenyatta told Fox News Digital after Hogg’s exit that the reelection drama had prevented DNC from “focusing on singularity.”

“We spent a lot of time talking about procedural nonsense within the DNC. I promise no one cares about it. No one wants to talk about it as much as me.

Hogg agreed and wrote in a long X statement that he had resigned from the DNC.

But Hogg ignited the internal Democrat division this year through his $20 million plan to challenge the vulnerable incumbent Democrats he said is “sleeping on the wheels.” The plan exposed the obvious rift with Martin, through his external political action group.

And the young progressive departure did little to stop the headlines about the Democratic turmoil.

Earlier this week, the New York Times also first reported that two top union leaders had left the DNC. Randy Weingerten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and President Lee Sanders, an employee of the United States Federation, county and city, have rejected offers to remain as a large member of the DNC.

“I look like you’re taking a step forward with the leadership you’re fake. I don’t want to continue to question why we’re not expanding our tents or trying to attract more and more communities in our community.”

Randy Weingarten, then president of the American Federation of Teachers, will respond to a subcommittee in front of the coronavirus pandemic home in Capitol Hill, Washington, on April 26, 2023.

Hogg’s decision to leave the DNC, including audio leaked from the Martin Conference’s Zoom meeting over Hogg’s fallout at the DNC, made it difficult for Democrats to do their job and demonstrate Martin’s ability to lead.

“I don’t think you intended this, but you essentially destroyed the opportunity to show the leadership I need. So it’s really frustrating,” Martin said.

On Friday, the DNC touted nearly $40 million in its first four months under Martin. The committee praised the “grassroots donors fired to elect Democrats and defeat the first agenda of Donald Trump and Maga Republican billionaires.”

“DNC, powered by our grassroots community, set new records for most of the money collected under a new chair in the first four months.

Free filed her complaints following the February 1st officer election for the Freeman. In this election, Hogg and Kenyatta were elected as sub-chairs. She alleged that the DNC tally law violated charter provisions and Congressional procedures and “discriminated against three women in the colour candidate.”

“This wasn’t about Malcolm Kenyatta or David Hogg,” Free told Fox News Digital. “For me, this was to ensure that Democrats live in our ideals as the only political party to stand up, believing in election integrity and free and fair democracy.”

Democrats argued that the reelection of the vice-chairman had nothing to do with the main controversy that Hogg got involved earlier this year, but Hogg denounced the vote as a “fast track” effort to remove him from party leadership.
