Police have identified three sets of human remains found along the coastline of the Palos Verdes property.

The bodies caused by all missing person cases have been under investigation since 2023.

In January 2021, it was reported that Mark Paulson was missing after not returning from a boat trip from Redondo Beach. He was last heard when he reported engine problems on his boat and expressed concern that he was blown away into the sea.

Search efforts were made involving the US Coast Guard, Harbor Patrol and the Los Angeles County lifeguard, but Paulson was not found. Two years later, in January 2023, the human femur was outside the coastline.

Palos Verdes police confirmed the remains associated with Paulson through DNA matching.

“There is no doubt about a foul play based on the overall situation,” the investigator said. “He must have been 68.”

In November 2024, the human skull and bones were placed and identified as Raymond Simeros, who is now 57 years old. Smith was believed to have experienced homelessness before his death. The detective said there was no suspicion of foul play.

In December 2024, it was reported that a fishing boat on two boats went missing from San Pedro amid a dangerous surfing situation. The two men did not return after leaving Cabrillo Beach on December 23rd.

A search effort was launched and on December 25th, their boat was wrecked along the 1700 block of Paseo del Mar.

The next day, two partial parts of the lower extremities were discovered on the coastline. On June 18, 2025, police confirmed that the body belonged to one of the missing fishermen, Zhaoliang Tang, 62.

LA County Fire Search and Rescue Teams search for two men who went missing after the boat capsized along the Palos Verdes Estate coastline on December 24, 2024. It disappeared on December 24, 2024 after a boat capsized along the coastline of Palos Verdes Estate.

No remaining related to the second missing fisherman was found. Based on the evidence, the detective decided that there was no reason to suspect a foul play at this time.

Police notified all three of their families following the confirmed DNA match.

“The police department at Palos Verdes Estate continues to be committed to a thorough investigation that will help bring answers and closures to families affected by the tragedy,” Prime Minister Luke Herringa said. “The circumstances surrounding each case are heartbreaking, but I hope that these identifications provide a measure of peace to our loved ones who have endured uncertainty and loss.”
