Several federal enforcement activities took place across Santa Ana on Saturday, sparking anger after social media videos surfaced with arrests.
One man, filmed on a mobile phone video, is seen chased by federal agents while holding a weed whacker. Witnesses say the man was a landscaper working in the area.
After a while, the man is surrounded by Border Patrol agents. When authorities try to detain him, one of the agents plucks him into his head multiple times before being forced into an unmarked SUV.
Witnesses are asked in the video, asking the agent why they attacked him.
Another operation involving Border Patrol agents deployed in a local car wash a few miles away. Two employees of the business have been arrested, according to management.
Dozens of people gathered on Bristol Street, a major avenue in Santa Ana, demanding that the business be terminated.
“A lot of anger and frustration because we can do anything about it. The best thing we can do is come out and let our voices heard,” Dennis Purdes said. “This is not what our city should look like. Our city isn’t like this.”
The NBCLA reached out to immigration enforcement officers about their involvement in the action and the use of force in video, but they have not received a response.
