Six people have died, two people are hospitalized, and two others remain missing after a boat capsized on Lake Tahoe on Saturday night.
Just before 5pm, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of capsized boats carrying 10 people near DL Bliss State Park.
The lake reportedly had experienced a large swell, with waves reaching 6-8 feet tall. Witnesses told Southaho that winds suddenly picked up around 3pm, creating dangerous conditions for the waters.

Local agencies, together with the U.S. Coast Guard and California State Parks, responded to the lake and reported that witnesses saw a group of people underwater near the boat that had capsized.
Six people, identified only as adults, were found to be dead. Two survivors were rescued from the water and taken to a local hospital. Coast Guard officials said the other two remained unknown on Saturday night.
The lake’s condition is reported to be severe, with 30 knots of wind, 38 degrees Celsius and windy cold near the freeze, according to data from the National Weather Service.
There have been reports that the boat was a crustal, but authorities have not confirmed details.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal incident are under investigation. No further details have been released, including the victim’s name.
The Security Bureau’s search and rescue team, along with the dive team, will return to the area Sunday morning to resume search operations.
