The 4-year-old was hospitalized after finding a gun inside his family’s Rancho Kucamonga home and accidentally shot him, police confirmed Saturday.
At 7:19pm on Wednesday, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Station responded to a call about the shooting that just happened in the 800 block of Heaven Avenue.
Lawmakers arrive to find a young child suffering from a gunshot wound, and he is taken to a local hospital. Police did not reveal what the juvenile was in, but said he was expected to survive.
According to a preliminary investigation, the 4-year-old spotted a gun “before left unsecured in her parents’ bedroom,” and accidentally fired it and shot herself in the stomach. Police said the child and family service reports have been completed and all firearms have been taken from the home “for storage.”
“We urge all gun owners to remind this unfortunate incident of the important importance of ensuring all firearms are safe,” the department wrote in a release. “Make sure your guns are stored properly and out of reach of children.”
