At least six people have been killed and two remain missing after a capsized boat on Lake Tahoe was capsized on Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
According to a Coast Guard news release, the ship, a 27-foot gold crusted shatter, capsized near DL Bliss State Park in a stormy state that produced 30 knots of wind and 6-8 feet of swell.
The Eldorado County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene, saying in a news release they were informed of the situation just before 5pm on Saturday and reported that the caller had seen 10 people in the water. The emergency response team rescued two people who were taken to hospital and recovered the bodies of six dead, according to release. The name of the deceased was not released and the relative’s notice was pending.
Sheriff’s officials said rescue operations continued for the two, which continued on Sunday.
Sacramento TV News Station KCRA 3 filmed a video of the violently shaking boat in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday. The storm also left dust from early summer snow on the mountains in the area, Sacramento Bee reported.
