Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that America was “not a war with Iran,” but rather was at war with Iran’s nuclear program, which “essentially” retreated by a US strike.

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Vance praises President Donald Trump’s “decisive action to destroy the program,” saying he “didn’t touch the ground” that he flew thousands of miles on a 30-hour non-stop flight.

“There’s no military in the world where the training, skills and equipment are to do what these guys did last night,” Vance said. “I know both the President and I are very proud and I think what they did has achieved a very core American national goal. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapons program. The President is very clear about this and thanks to the courage, ability and skills of our great pilots and everyone who supported this mission, we took a big step for that national purpose last night.”

Vance was hesitant to disclose too much confidential information about the mission, which was reportedly involved with 125 planes.

President Donald Trump will arrive with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses on Saturday, June 21, 2025, to speak from the East Room of the White House in Washington.

ABC’s Jonathan Karl asked the vice president, “Can I say clearly that Iran’s nuclear program has now been destroyed?”

“I don’t want to be caught up in sensitive intelligence here, but I know Iran’s nuclear programme has been significantly back last night. Whether that takes years or not, it will be a very long time for Iran to even build nuclear weapons if they want,” Vance said.

Imposing the extent of the damage, the Vice President once again refused to disclose sensitive intelligence, but added, “I feel very confident and can confidently tell the American people that I am far more remote from the nuclear program than I had before 24 hours.”

“That’s the purpose of the mission, to destroy that Fordow nuclear site, and of course it will cause some kind of damage to other sites,” he said. “But we are very confident that Fordow’s nuclear site has effectively retreated. That was our goal.”

Vance told NBC’s Meet the Press, Meet the Press, that the US was engaged in the diplomatic process with Iranians, was not helpful until President Trump “decided to issue some private ultimates to Iranians.”

“My message to Iranians is that it’s the stupidest thing in the world,” Vance said of the potential retaliation after the US attack. “If we look at what happened last night, there was an incredibly targeted, precise surgical strike against nuclear facilities, the target of American operations. Our national interest is that Iran will not get nuclear weapons. I think last night’s strike is Nekosan if Iranians want to expand this by attacking the US troops.”

Vance reiterated how Trump mentioned in his late Saturday night speech from the White House that the US wanted Iran to peacefully abandon its nuclear program, allowing Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

“There’s no way the US can have nuclear weapons in Iran, so they really have to choose a route,” Vance told ABC. “Are they going down the path of continuing war, funding terrorism and seeking nuclear weapons? Or will they work with us to abandon nuclear weapons forever? If they are willing to choose the clever path, they will certainly find an ambitious partner in the United States to dismantle that nuclear weapons program.

He issued a warning again.

“But if they decide to attack our troops, if they decide to continue trying to build nuclear weapons, we will respond with overwhelming force.

Trump warned on Saturday that “Iran’s retaliation against the United States will meet with much greater force than what was seen tonight.” The US military has carried out “large-scale precision strikes” at three key nuclear facilities of the Iranian regime: Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan” have been “terrifyingly destructive businesses” for many years and have now been “completely and completely wiped out.”
