As more videos create a social media round of federal agents detaining individuals in apparent immigrant raids, Southern Los Angeles leaders, who were prominent voices during the Black Life Matter demonstration, are urging the black community to join him.
Baba Akri, a well-known community activist, has attended a recent demonstration against the Trump administration’s immigration attacks. While he continues to protest the cause, he is calling on the black community to join him.
“We’re firmly behind the need to fight back,” he said. “We are firmly in the need to express our opposition to what is happening.
Over the weekend, there was a display of unity between the black and brown communities as the group connecting Compton held a ride of solidarity to oppose the raid. It’s the kind of action Akili said he wanted to see more.
“We can’t afford to sit down this. Some people say, ‘Well, that’s not our problem.’ That’s right,” he said. “There’s a debate developed in this community: ‘Well, they never supported us,’ “They voted for Trump,” or ‘They’re driving us away.’ It’s true, but it’s not always right. ”
Akiri said he can feel the fear people have in South Los Angeles.
“You can see it in the street vendors,” he said. “You can see it with the people who care for our children.
As a result, Akiri will join other black leaders and organizations in South Los Angeles on Tuesday and continue to oppose the business. The press conference is scheduled for 11:30am.
