The man was taken into custody after he locked himself in a MacDonald’s toilet on Riverside, authorities announced Monday.
On Friday, an officer at the Riverside Police Station answered a 6:38am call from a McDonald employee, saying the man had just been locked in the bathroom and had not responded.
Police arrived at McDonald’s in the 7400 block of Indiana Avenue and “had the man left the toilet,” according to department release.
“The man became militant and the forces were used to detain him,” police said. “Medical assistance responded and while being treated by paramedics, he remained combative before he fell into medical distress.”
The first responder took the man to a local hospital. There, police said he was treated for over an hour, but despite efforts by medical staff, the man later died.
“This investigation is currently underway and no further details are available at this time,” the department wrote.
