Pasadena City Council on Monday approved an official statement denounced the city’s federal immigrant attacks.
Following the recent execution in Pasadena, city leaders denounced record-breaking behavior, including one example that occurred near a bus stop and another reported in a residential area.
“We are opposed to human basis, public safety grounds, and we are paying attention to the dangerous situations they are creating in our communities, our neighborhoods, our parks and our business districts,” said Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo.
During a packed city council meeting, Pasadena residents expressed their opposition to operations that have raised anxiety about several communities. The city of Pasadena has stood with the immigrant community and approved a formal statement calling the attack “unconstitutional.”
By putting it on the record with the opposition, the city aims to send a clear message to federal agents and reassure the community that leaders will stand with their immigrant neighbors.
“We are hopeful and proud of Pasadena’s hope and pride in the fact that it is not okay to have a clear denial of the tactics of disappearing immigrants,” said Pablo Alvarado, co-executive director of National Day Workers Organization Network.
