Anthony Bernal, a former advisor to former First Lady Jill Biden, refuses to be questioned before the House Oversight Committee about allegedly covering up former President Joe Biden’s mental decline.
R-Ky. Chairman James Comer said in a press release Tuesday that he refused to appear for an interview transcribed on June 26 as part of the committee’s investigation into Biden’s cover-up and as part of the potentially misused use of the autopen for executive action and pardon.
“Now that the White House has waived executive privileges, it’s abundantly clear that Anthony Bernal (Jill Biden’s so-called “work husband”) never intends to be transparent about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and subsequent cover-up,” Comer said. “With no privilege remaining to hide behind, Bernal is now running frightened to fill the truth. The American people deserve answers and accountability, and the oversight committee will not tolerate this obstruction.”
The chairman added that if Bernal does not want him to come himself, he will issue a subpoena to Bernal to provide testimony before the committee.

A letter obtained by Fox News Digital from sources familiar with the issue shows that the Trump administration will not allow those interested in investigating Comer to use past White House works as legal shields.
President Gary Rokovsky’s deputy lawyers have written to former Chief of Staff Ron Crane, former Chief of Staff, Anita Dunn, Steve Richetti, Mike Donilon, Annie Tomasini, Bruce Reed, Ashley Williams and Bernal.
“In light of the unique and extraordinary nature of the issue under investigation, President Trump has determined that the claims of enforcement privilege are not in national interest and therefore are not justified in regard to specific subjects within the purview of the House Oversight Committee,” the letter said. “These subjects include your knowledge of former President Biden’s fitness assessment of the presidency and who used enforcement during his administration.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Kommer said on June 26, 2025 he would summon Anthony Vernal, former senior aide to former Jill Biden, to testify on the cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s mental health decline.
Congressional Republicans and the White House are investigating whether senior Biden aides in question played a role in maintaining concerns about the shield from the public eye and even from lower-level White House staff.
“Just yesterday we heard from our first witness, Neela Tanden, from Neela Tanden, the former staff secretary who controlled Biden Autopen,” Kommer said Wednesday. “Tanden testified that despite his incredible authority, he has kept his interactions with President Biden to a minimum. She explained that he had no visibility of sending a memo and returning with approval to send decision notes to members of the president’s inner circle to get approval for the auto-pen signature.
“Her testimony raises serious questions about who was actually calling the shot at the Biden White House amid the obvious decline of the president,” Comer continued. “We will continue to pursue the truth for Americans.”

According to Comer’s Office, Bernal’s team previously confirmed they would appear in an interview that was transcribed on June 26, 2025. However, yesterday, the White House lawyer’s office informed Vernal that it had waived enforcement privileges in regards to the oversight board investigation.
Bernal’s legal team later told the committee he would no longer compete in the interview.
In a press release, Comer’s team said in the final assembly that the chairman had summoned three Key White House aides, including Bernal.

Despite the subpoena, the White House under Biden is allegedly obstructed the commission’s investigation by refusing to make aides available for interviews and deposits.
