A man allegedly stolen a severe vigil has been arrested for a recent Culver City High School graduate in Torrance, police announced Thursday.
The boy, identified as 17-year-old Chiller Patong, was shot and killed on June 18 at a pool party in the 23,000 block of Harbour Avenue. The suspect was not arrested in connection with Patong’s murder, according to the Torrance Police Department. His loved ones began with GofundMe and described the deceased teenager as “loving sons, siblings, classmates, teammates.”
On Tuesday, June 24th, about 200-300 people attended an all-night stand for Patong at the football field at Culver City High School. The Culver Police Department said it was around 7:50 p.m. that officials responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the area in the 11,000 block of Franklin Avenue.
Officers arrived within minutes and discovered that there had been a physical altercation during the event, which escalated into a shooting. Details of the fight were not immediately provided. “Fortunately, no injuries have been reported,” the department said at its release. “The officers quickly secured the site.”
The detective responded, and immediately identified the gunman as 20-year-old Jonathan Plater. They did not reveal what caused the battle or whether Plater was known to Patong.
“After the suspect was identified, surveillance, obtaining search warrants and tracking multiple leads, the suspect was located in the 58th Avenue and Vermont Avenue areas in Los Angeles,” the release detailed.
Detectives found Plater on Wednesday night and entered the car driven by a 17-year-old girl. Authorities pulled them on 6th Avenue in Los Angeles, detained the driver and arrested Plater safely. He was ultimately reserved for an attempted murder, police say.
