According to law enforcement sources, the burglar broke into a Los Angeles home owned by Brad Pitt on Wednesday and plundered the actor’s residence while leaving town.
A Los Angeles police officer said a home break-in occurred around 10:30pm on Wednesday.
At least three suspects expanded the security fence at the Ross Ferris area house in Pitt, destroying windows before entering, creating “real confusion” and stole some items.
A source familiar with crime said that Pitt’s property was thrown and overthrown as the thieves “experienced searching for something they could gain value.”
Pitt is one of the newest celebrities to see their homes being robbed. South American theft gangs have been plaguing the upscale LA neighborhoods in recent years.
In early February, French striker Olivier Gillud, who plays for Los Angeles FC, targeted his home and stolen $500,000 worth of jewelry and watch, sources said. On Valentine’s Day, the homes of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were robbed.
The mid-century modern home in Pitt is called the Steel House and is one of several owned by the movie stars. He was in London on Monday night for the European premiere of “F1: The Movie.”
Last August, the FBI, which works with local police, demolished a multi-million-dollar crime tourism ring that had been operating in Southern California for many years, promoting theft across the country. Their research led them to their most unusual hub: the car rental business in Los Angeles.
The group oversaw hundreds of thefts across the country, including Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties, starting around 2018. However, prosecutors estimated a loss of about $35 million to businesses and homeowners.
The trend of South American criminal groups visiting Southern California for theft and robbery emerged about six years ago, and authorities are working to control it.
