The White House is heavy on leakers of preliminary assessments of Iran’s strike

Those who have leaked preliminary assessments of the US strike at Iran’s nuclear facility will face justice in the US strike at Iran’s nuclear facility, according to White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt.

President Donald Trump and several leaders say the strike has destroyed three Iranian nuclear sites.

A leaked report from the Defense Intelligence Reporting Agency issued by CNN and the New York Times raises doubts, saying the strike had only retreated Iran’s nuclear program by a few months. CNN first reported the results of the assessment and cited the seven people who were explained in the report. The outlet reported that the findings were based on a combat damage assessment from US Central Command.

Leavitt pushed back the reliability of the early assessment, claiming that the report was “wrong.”

“Everyone knows what happens when you drop a 30,000-pound bomb completely on your target: a complete expunge,” Leavitt said in a statement Tuesday.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegses said Wednesday that the FBI was conducting an investigation to get to the bottom of the issue, and who shared the documents with the media.

Trump denies Russia’s casual threat of arming Iran with nuclear weapons: “That’s Putin’s boss.”

Leavitt told reporters that leaking confidential information is a criminal offence, and anyone who does not follow the law “should be held liable for that crime.”

“This administration wants to ensure that categorized intelligence does not end in irresponsible hands. We hope that those who have the privilege of viewing this secret classification information are responsible for it,” Leavitt told reporters.

“Obviously, there were very few people who had this in hand, and very few people in our government who saw this report,” Leavitt said. “The person was irresponsible for that. And we need to get to that bottom. And we need to strengthen that process to protect national security and protect the American people.”

Meanwhile, the US, Israel and Iranian foreign ministries all say three nuclear sites attacked by the US military have suffered major damage.

Ismail Baghhai, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that the country’s nuclear facilities have been “devastated” and Israel’s nuclear commission told the US strike was “devastating.”

On Sunday, Chief of Staff Dan Kane said the initial combat damage assessment “indicates that all three sites maintained very serious damage and destruction.”

Trump issued a warning to Iran on Wednesday if he attempted to repair the nuclear program once again, saying the US would not hesitate to launch another strike against Iran.

Trump personally called for the fire of one of the reporters who wrote the story about the original review, and in Wednesday’s Truth Social Post, the reporter “should be rebuked immediately and thrown out “like a dog.”

Still, CNN has come to defend reporter Natasha Bertrand.

“We are 100% behind Natasha Bertrand’s journalism, particularly her and her colleagues, reporting early information assessments of the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” CNN said in a statement Wednesday. “The CNN report revealed that this was the first discovery that could change with additional intelligence. We have extensively covered President Trump’s own deep skepticism.”

Brooke Singman of Fox News contributed to this report.
