The eldest son of a man who was punched by federal agents when he was detained in Santa Ana over the weekend says his father has been better after a violent arrest.
Narciso Barranco, a 48-year-old landscaper and father of three Marines, was taken into custody in ice custody at a federal detention center in downtown Los Angeles, and later moved to the Adelanto Detention Center.
“It sounds much better,” said Alejandro Barranco, who spoke with his father on Thursday. “Last night he said he was worried about his job again and sent me the whole list to get it for the work he was doing.”
Alejandro says his father has finally managed to change his clothes.
Videos of the weekend’s arrests saw federal agents punching the barlanco. Baranco has lived in the United States for over 30 years when he was secured to the ground.
He worked in landscaping work outside of IHOP on Richie Street and Eddinger Avenue. The Department of Homeland Security shared on social media Monday that Baranco assaulted federal agents with weed robbers while in custody.
However, his family said that a longtime landscaper was trying to protect himself from pepper spray and some armed agents.
“When he heard it, he was shocked,” Baranco said. “He had no intention of hitting anyone. He had no intention of hurting anyone.”
In the video, we see Baranco running on Garden Tools, but did not capture the moment before the conflict at the busy Santa Ana intersection. When Valenko is taken into custody, the string trimmer can be seen on the ground.
Alejandro said he asked him to finish his landscaping job while his father was in custody, but he said he didn’t know how long he was in custody. It was not immediately clear whether Narciso Barranco would face charges in connection with the alleged power tools. The Department of Homeland Security refused to confirm whether a warrant existed for his arrest.
